I had a conversation recently on a podcast that brought this into full focus. It was such a powerful conversation I decided to turn it into a newsletter today for you and later on LinkedIn. So many people aren’t struggling because they don’t know what to do. They’re struggling because showing up requires being seen—and that feels exposed. Women? #1 culprit on this list.
So instead, we prepare more.
Refine more.
Wait longer.
But here’s what I’ve seen over and over again:
Your brand is not something you create. It’s something you uncover. I talk all about this in my book Theatre of the Mind, and lately it has been the hot topic on the podcasts I have been on including this one.
The real work isn’t building it from scratch. It’s learning how to translate who you already are into something visible, clear, and understood by both people AND machines. Here are 3 lessons from this conversation:

Your brand is already there—you’re just not expressing it yet. Most people think they need to “build” a personal brand. But what actually creates trust is alignment. Your perspective, your experience, your way of thinking—that’s the foundation. The gap is not identity. It’s expression.

Imposter syndrome isn’t a sign to stop—it’s a sign you’re stepping forward. It shows up most when you’re expanding your visibility. Not because you’re unqualified, but because you’re no longer hiding behind your work. One of the simplest ways to shift this is to start collecting proof—wins, feedback, moments of impact. Not for anyone else. For you.

Confidence doesn’t come first. Visibility does. This is where most people get stuck. They wait to feel ready before they show up. But confidence is built through action. Through publishing. Through speaking. Through being seen. The people you see as confident didn’t start that way—they built it by showing up before they felt ready. DO THE THING!
